"The Territorial Dimensions of Social Policy: Actors, Processes and Outcomes in a Comparative Perspective"

Target group
The Summer School is targeted at PhD-students who have started, or are about to start, a project on a social policy issue related to the territorial dimension, and who feel a need to broaden and deepen their understanding of the manifold territorial implications of social policy design in a comparative perspective.
With this theme and target group ESPAnet aims at contributing to the realisation of three of its central aims, which are: to stimulate the entry of young researchers into the field; to enhance the development of their knowledge, skills and experience; to promote a comparative approach to the analysis of social policy in Europe.
Subjects
The Summer School offers lectures and workshops on:
· Welfare modelling and the territorial dimension of social policies: how models change, examples, indicators, impacts;
· Devolution and public policy in Europe: a critical introduction and discussion;
· Local social policies and new governance arrangements in Europe: a comparative perspective
· Gender and the territorial dimension of social policies
· The regionalisation of health policies: actors, processes and impacts
· Local actors, welfare mix and the new welfare scenario in Europe
· Globalisation, local actors and the role of the State
Format
The Summer School offers lectures with discussion in the morning, and assignments and workshops in the afternoon.
Selected participants will receive a detailed syllabus and a reader at least one month prior the beginning of the summer school. They are supposed to read assigned readings before coming to Urbino.
At the final day of the program students present their PhD-project to other PhD students and staff to obtain comments, suggestions and ideas.
Fee
The registration fee is of € 400.00 and includes accommodation in the University College at subsidised prices (7 nights). Those, who would like to organise accommodation by themselves have to pay a registration fee of € 325.00. Banking details will be given to the selected participants.
Accommodation
Students are housed in the University College in single-person rooms or two-person room, depending on availability. Bookings and payments are done by the summer school administration. Students pay the accommodation fee to the summer school administration.

Certificate and ECTS credits
The Summer School participants will receive a 'certificate of participation' after completion of the course, which provides them with 3 ECTS. Additional 3 ECTS are available for those who opt to write a take home paper.
